Abstract
Lightning is a major cause of insulator damages in power system in Indonesia. Located in tropical country with the very high lightning density, Indonesian electrical companies & Private companies are suffering a big outages number caused by lightning. According to Indonesian state electrical company, Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN), over 56% outages in their 500 kV system is caused by lightning, and for 150 kV, 70 kV and 20 kV system the statistics are 28%, 69%[3], and 90%[7], respectively. This paper contents some record of the insulator damages in Indonesian power system, and some improvement that has been done.
