Abstract

Text analysis tasks such as automatic indexing, automatic abstracting and automatic title generation require determination of the main theme and text content. In this paper, the statistical methods used in automatic indexing for the extraction of keywords is adopted for title generation. Using two online dictionaries, a prototype statistical title generation system is developed and tested on social science abstracts and reading comprehension exercises
