Abstract
This article considers the CD basis weight response modelling of a Fourdrinier machine to a single actuator adjustment of a slice lip actuator. The underlying physical principles have been used to develop a model for control of CD weight profile. The model has been extended to accommodate realistic conditions of a paper machine. The value of the model in new design or modification of wet end elements of a paper machine is illustrated through simulation. This approach to modelling reduces the number of parameters to be estimated as compared to the current CD response modelling using time series techniques
