Abstract
Password authenticated key exchange protocols allow two entities who only share a human memorable password to authenticate each other and agree on a session key between themselves. This paper surveys the state of research on password authenticated key exchange based on RSA. We point out the subtleties in designing such schemes, and summarize some facts from number theory which are widely used to analyze these schemes. Some important password authenticated key exchange schemes based on RSA are reviewed. Finally, we discuss some interesting problems concerning with practical and theoretical aspects of password authenticated key exchange based on RSA.
