Abstract :
A new and simple method to measure distance and cable length together with its design and implementation is described on this paper. The idea here presented is based on the endless repetition of an electric pulse. At either end or terminal of the distance or cable to be measured a repetition system is installed to resend the pulse to the other terminal. This endless pulse repetition creates a frequency, which is almost inversely proportional to the distance to be measured. This method has also been applied for localization systems where two o more distance to one common localization point are simultaneously measured. The resolution, accuracy and distance range could be adjusted by varying the repetition time delay introduced at both ends. With this method distances can be measured with a great resolution using low cost electronic systems with microsecond resolution, simplifying classical time of flight designs, which require a more complex and expensive hardware with picosecond resolution.
