  • Abstract
WiMAX is a well-known and mature broadband wireless access technology that supports multimedia transmission users. IEEE 802.16e has evolved into five quality of service (QoS) scheduling types for WiMAX data transmission. Many efforts are being made to create WiMAX packet scheduling schemes. In this paper I propose an efficient batch-arrival queueing model to evaluate a QoS-aware packet scheduling system and to derive three performance measures-packet loss rate (PLR), queueing delay (QD) and bandwidth utilization (BU). Then the measures are adopted to solve a utilization optimization problem by given QoS constraints. Specifically, a given traffic statistic and specified maximum PLR and QD constraints are applied to optimize BU for a classified packet scheduling buffer in a base station. Operators can use the results to set optimized scheduling buffer size dynamically and to improve their profit while the QoS constraints are concerned. I hope that the proposed model has utility in the operation of WiMAX networks.
