Abstract :
Using a matrix pencil representation for linear time-invariant multivariable systems, the well-known duality between closed-loop characteristic frequencies as a function of scalar gain and open-loop characteristic gains as a function of scalar frequency is demonstrated in an elementary way. This demonstration shows the duality between root-locus and frequency-domain design techniques and is extended to show that a feedback gain matrix has a natural dual frequency matrix.
