Abstract
The function block (FB) technology provides for the standardization of the whole application process in a distributed control system (DCS) if common models and tools are agreed and used. This paper presents a basic model of the application functions and the co-operation of its elements. It shows how this model can be applied to the different components of the DCS (e.g. in modelling a single device). Furthermore the international standardization process is analysed and compared with the presented model
