Abstract
The paper presents a new torque control scheme for synchronous reluctance motor drives that does not require any position transducer to synchronize the stator current vector with the rotor position, thus allowing a reliable and low cost realization as required in medium performance electric drives. The proposed torque control scheme is in some way a transposition of the well known direct self control (DSC) scheme for induction motor drives, but it is characterized by some peculiarities fitting the specific requirements of synchronous reluctance motor drives. Such key features make synchronous reluctance motor drives based on the proposed scheme more robust than standard DSC drives while maintaining the same advantageous prerogatives. Experimental tests show the performances of the new control technique
