Abstract
This paper relates to a modified synchronous current doubler rectifier for an asymmetric half-bridge DC/DC converter wherein two saturable inductors are added in series with the output synchronous rectifiers to significantly reduce power losses, particularly at light load, by extending Zero Voltage Transition range and, by achieving operation of the asymmetric half-bridge DC/DC converter without excessive small duty cycle at near zero current load. Elimination of the R-C dissipative snubbers for damping of the voltage ringing across the output rectifier is another important benefit of the saturable inductors. The implications of saturable inductors series connected with synchronous rectifiers in the current double rectifier are analyzed. Design considerations and experimental verifications are given.
