Abstract
We apply a discrete-time method to derive an exact solution for the outage probability in a cellular network as the mobile moves along a given trajectory, employing a hysteresis-based handoff algorithm. The exact solution addresses the relationships among the three key handoff parameters: hysteresis level, fade margin, and outage probability. Our numerical results, obtained from analysis and simulation, show that the proposed solution method is very accurate in both light and heavy shadowing environments, while previous approximate methods are accurate only in some specific environments.
