Abstract
A 40 Gbps ultra long span unrepeatered system is proposed. In the scheme, total effective capacity (40 Gbps) of the system is inverse multiplexed into 12 channels by digital signal processing. The bit rate of each channel is 10 Gbps. Principle of operation is clarified and experiment is performed without dispersion compensation. Results indicate that the proposed system can tolerate distortion caused by chromatic dispersion effectively after long distance transmission. The proposed system is applicable for ultra long single span transmission.
