Abstract
To support a major goal of intelligent networks, the rapid creation of services, an investigation of processes, tools, and techniques was undertaken. This included techniques such as computer aided software engineering (CASE) designed to speed the development life cycle for telecommunications software. The application of specification analysis, rapid prototyping, and test-case generation were identified as especially interesting areas for further study. Ameritech has undertaken an effort to prototype these techniques in a service creation environment (SCE) to support the specification, development, and testing of new services. The author describes the service creation process, the types of SCE functionality needed to support this process, and the current status of the prototype SCE
