  • Abstract
    In the context of emerging importance of WDM networks, the choice of an efficient RWA algorithm is extremely important. However, the existing metrics do not provide sufficient evidence to be held as a good assessment of these algorithms. This article proposes a new metric, termed Efficiency, which brings together the networks resource usage, blocking rate, and the request type. Based on the insights provided by the new metric we propose a new distributed and flexible RWA algorithm, called ADAP-METRIC. The proposed algorithm is distributed, on-demand an adaptable to network changes as all routes and wavelength assignments are computed on a needed bases. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm improves the network resource utilization by nearly 12%.
