Abstract
Reducing thickness deviation and flatness defects should improve the product yield of the cold tandem mill. Wakayama Works has begun to produce many types of steel in small quantities. Moreover, using existing equipment, the product yield must be improved without much new investment. This paper introduces a new control system which has been applied in the continuous cold tandem mill to improve the product yield at the Wakayama Works. The new control system reduces thickness deviation of passed strip at the mill´s 4th stand, and it also stabilizes tensile force between the 4th and 5th stands, and rolling force of the 5th stand
