Abstract :
We present a design and implementation of a network autoconfiguration framework for Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks (MANETs). While prior work on MANET autoconfiguration has been focused on address autoconfiguration, our design encompasses additional system aspects necessary to allow a MANET to move from a powered-off state to a usable state. Our design is fully distributed and can operate without any centralized management, and it can leverage managed network services if they are available. Our autoconfiguration framework use Simplified Multicast Forwarding (SMF) multicast routing and Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) unicast routing. In this paper, we present a system that autoconfigures both managed and unmanaged IP addresses, unicast and multicast routing protocols, and provide peer-to-peer service discovery. Our solution is designed for both stand-alone MANETs and MANETs with gateways to higher-tier networks
