Abstract
In this paper, a modelling based on a simplified state-space representation of a synchronous generator has been developed for tuning automatic reactive power regulators (AQR) which equip some French hydro power plants. These digital PI controllers participate to secondary voltage control with some control performance criteria updated lastly by the transmission system operator. New AQR´s parameters are calculated from a time-discrete transfer function approach which takes into account modelling uncertainties with robustness margins. The validity of the tuning was verified by comparing Matlab simulations with measurements carried out on a 110 MVA hydro unit.
