Abstract
This presentation describes the modeling techniques for a voltage source converter (VSC)-based flexible alternating current transmission systems (FACTS) controller, such as a unified power flow controller (UPFC). The model is implemented in an Electro-Magnetic Transients Program (EMTP) simulation package and the results are compared with the operational results of an actual equipment. The operation of the UPFC includes the control of the line voltage, the selective control of the real and reactive power flow in the line and the protection of the UPFC during faults and contingencies
