Abstract
Currently, multimedia technology is widely used. Using the video encoding compression technology can save storage space, and also can improve the transmission efficiency of network communications. The goal of the research is to use motion estimation and compensation technology for scalable video compression coding. A detailed discussion of H.264/AVC motion estimation technology is presented, including the principles of motion estimation, macro-block division, module decision-making, rate-distortion optimization, the best matching algorithms, and the standards of evaluation of the quality of coding. The direction of research and development of H.264/AVC is discussed as well.
