Abstract
An electrical breakdown in vacuum is caused by field emission current emitted from the cathode surface. And the field emission current is emitted from micro-protrusions on the cathode surface. In this study we investigated the effect of the repeating times of applying voltage on the field emission. By the repeat of applying voltage, it will be clear whether the field emission continues in the same condition or changes to other conditions. To consider the variation of the action of field emission spot, we used the IVD cathode and electrolytic polished cathode. As a result, keeping the field emission decreases the field emission current, and the effect of repeating times of applying voltage was different among the IVD cathode, the electrolytic polished cathode and the filed cathode
