Abstract :
A new design method generator´s PSS using Pline and V bus is proposed in this paper. Two types of remote signal PSS inputs are added to the generator´s excitation system in addition to a conventional local signal (ΔP and/or Δω) respectively. By selecting the power flow of a remote transmission line (Pline -PSS) and a remote bus voltage (Vbus-PSS) as the new PSS inputs, it was possible to improve the damping of inter-area oscillations and the power transfer capability. The minimization of a stability performance index using eigenvalues optimizes the Pline -PSS parameters. On the other hand, Vbus-PSS works very well especially for a heavy load power. Simulation results show that when the developed supplementary excitation system is applied to an 18-generator power system, it gives better damping and synchronizing performance and an improved power transfer capability than the conventional PSS
