Abstract :
In this paper, the authors propose a low cost implementable sliding mode controller for high-performance speed regulation of SRMs for direct-drive servo applications. They then present design of a sliding mode controller for SRMs. Instead of decoupled control as proposed by previous researchers, they propose to use only one voltage regulator to feed all four-phases of the motor so that the cost of the drive system is affordable. Hardware implementation of the nonlinear controller has been achieved using a TMS320C50 digital signal processor. Experimental results are also presented
