Abstract
A generalization of balanced realizations for discrete systems called block-balanced realizations is introduced. A sufficient condition to obtain a block-balanced realization is given and computational advantages over the balanced realizations are pointed out. It is shown that all the properties of balanced realizations are preserved in block-balanced realizations. Finally, a norm condition to obtain the reduced model is provided.
