Abstract
Recently, the demand on IPTV services has been greatly increasing. For effectively supporting IPTV services via wireless network of limited resource, various techniques have been developed. In this paper, in order to efficiently provide the VoD(Video on Demand) service to a large number of users of wireless IPTV, we propose a scheme improving the existing batching scheme. The proposed scheme properly utilizes the relationship between the transmission time, decoding time, and playing time of the video segments. It applies dynamic multicasting during the interval of successive transmissions of the segments, and needs to store only a small number of segments in the mobile node for continuous playback. As a result, the proposed approach improves the channel utilization and decreases the number of segments transmitted. Simulation shows that the proposed approach allows seamless service with a smaller number of channels and buffer size than the existing batching scheme.
