Abstract :
An adaptive approach to the estimation of the instantaneous frequency (IF) of multicomponent FM signals in additive Gaussian noise has been recently analyzed using a time-only kernel. In this paper we justify applying this approach to other two members of the quadratic class of time-frequency distributions: the spectrogram and Choi-Williams distribution. We also compare the statistical performance of these distributions using the bias, the variance, and the optimum lag window lengths of their IF estimators
