Abstract :
We design a Call Admission Control (CAC) algorithm for voice over multi-rate Wireless Local Area Networks (WLAN) that guarantees a satisfactory quality level of performance for the voice call sessions admitted into the WLAN while allowing the maximum utilization of the available resources. Our measurement-based CAC algorithm quantifies the resources consumed by current call sessions and utilizes their historical behavior to account for potential rate changes and make an educated admission control decision. Eventually, we evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed solution using the network simulator (ns-3) and we end up with a CAC algorithm capable of guaranteeing a satisfactory level of Quality of Service (QoS), regardless of the presence of rate adaptation algorithms, while keeping an efficient use of the network resources.
