Abstract
This paper considers a direct-sequence (DS) spread-spectrum multiple access (SSMA) communication system with punctured pragmatic trellis coded modulation (P2-TCM) coding. The system operates in the presence of additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) and may experience either Rayleigh or Rician channel fading. In particular, the generalized transfer function bound (GTFB) is used to obtain the bit error rate (BER) estimates and system performance is compared with that of pragmatic TCM (P-TCM) coded system. Numerical results show that both systems have comparable performance in an AWGN environment. However, the P2-TCM codes show better performance compared to the P-TCM codes in fading channels
