Abstract
Standard edge detectors for skin lesion boundary detection have serious shortcomings. Those giving sufficiently detailed borders are sensitive to image noise including spurious small scale structure and those tolerant of noise involve low-pass filtering which loses border detail. Edge focusing allows accurate lesion boundary detection whilst being insensitive to image noise
