  • Abstract
This paper gives a short overview of the alternatives for the neutral earthing of high voltage distribution systems. One approach is the resonant-earthing technique which is widely used in Europe. The paper highlights the benefits of this earthing method. It describes the state-of-the-art of earthfault detection in resonant-earthed systems and proposes possible options for improvement. Finally, the arc suppression coil which is the main component for neutral earthing is described in some detail.
