Abstract
The Hongkong Electric Co., Ltd. (HEC) began to supply electricity in Hong Kong in 1890 and is now among those utilities in the world which have the longest history of operation. For the past 11 years, HEC has achieved a supply reliability of 99.999% or better, which is among the best in the world. The high supply reliability is accomplished systematically through careful network design and planning; prudent policies in equipment evaluation and selection, construction, maintenance and operation; focus on reliability and total quality as well as establishing a framework for continuous improvement, skill development and knowledge management. This paper will share HEC´s experiences in various aspects in this search of excellence in the operation and management of distribution network.
