Abstract
This paper presents an approch to the three-phase unbalanced and distributed modeling of synchronous machines. The models are proposed for studying the potentially damaging effects of negative sequence currents and unbalanced forces due to the unbalanced operalion. Furthermore, the paper presents the development of an observer that estimates the unmeasurable damper winding currents. A method is also proposed for tracking the slates and parameters of a synchronous machine. The result of a case study is given.
