  • Abstract
A scheme being operated by the Swedish electricity supply utilities involves recording details of newly purchased electricity meters in a central database, which is used for country-wide random sample testing of the meters. The results of the tests are used for optimising the length of time for which meters are used in service. In practice, this means that meters can be left in service until sample tests show that they are no longer meeting the statutory requirements in respect of maximum permissible metering error. In addition, the scheme also collects information on faults and records this in the national database, from which the reliability of the meters can be assessed. The sample tests and the collection of fault data are being carried out within the framework of an agreement between the Association of Swedish Electrical Utilities and the Swedish National Testing and Research Institute
