Analysis tools in preparation for Radarsat revisited: Evaluation tools for SAR data exploitation

A proliferation of low cost data from spaceborne SAR sensors will open the way to wider use of SAR data in many application areas. By investing in tools, we hope to do the maximum good by amplifying the efforts of others, especially the new user of SAR who has a concrete evaluation task to accomplish and no established means to achieve it. In our view, more work is needed in training. Although tools and data will become increasingly available, an appreciation of and enthusiasm for SAR among those outside the remote sensing field is a necessary prerequisite for the full realization of the potential of SAR as an operational technology.
