Abstract :
Introducing Peer-to-Peer (P2P) technology into IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) is hard but important, especially to the streaming media service. Based on the strength analysis of IMS and P2P, three solutions with the features of signaling centralized and media distributed are compared, and eventually the solution of managing P2P via application server is selected. For the purpose of reusing the public enabler of IMS and reserving adequate bandwidth resource for media delivery between two peers, the paper concludes some basic principles and designs P2P-enabled and IMS-based streaming service architecture with the functional entity extension which is named resource manage function. Then a controllable P2P delivery network is built with the characteristics of controllable scale, optimized routing-path and QoS guarantee, and the signaling flow when media stream is received from the UE in a P2P network is depicted. Furthermore, the advantage and disadvantage of managing the P2P overlay in a central server are discussed.
