Abstract
Summary form only given. A dielectric Cerenkov maser amplifier is simulated with XOOPIC and results are compared to experiment and theory. The device examined is azimuthally symmetric with a circular cross section. A magnetically confined annular electron beam at 79 keV and 7 A interacts with the slow wave structure to produce the radiation. The outer guide radius is 6.25 cm, with a 2.19 cm thick smooth dielectric liner of permittivity /spl epsiv//sub /spl tau//=4.2. The applied magnetic field is 0.1 T. These parameters are very close to a series of experiments at Dartmouth (Von Laven, 1982), which demonstrated output powers in the range of 300-100 kW at 10-50 GHz with 10% efficiency when operating in the TM/sub 01/ mode. The dispersion has been obtained and agrees well with the experiment. The efficiency, power, and gain will be compared for the parameters of the Dartmouth experiment.
