Abstract :
Solution of wide area damping control is presented in the paper. The speed difference between generators is used as wide area supplementary stabilizing signal. The communication delay is compensated by lead-lag network. A method to determine the optimal location and number of wide area damping controllers (WADC) is given. The fitness function for optimization algorithm is an integral of time-weighted squared errors. The continued data-packet losses in the communication are resolved by prediction using least squares support vector machines. The simulation of a 10-machine 39-bus power system shows that WADC can improve the stability of interconnected power systems.
