The author discusses why a shift from stand-alone groupware (tools to support organizational groupwork) to embedded groupware may require new research and project development agendas. Topics covered include baseline groupwork research, humble groupware, intimate meetings, and multicultural issues. The basic infrastructure needed for groupware applications is also discussed
