Abstract :
Summary form only given, as follows. We report on the results of experiments to study the dynamics of an electron beam that passes transversely through the focus of a pulsed laser beam in vacuum. The electron beam energy can be varied from 1 to 50 keV with current of a few milliamps maximum. Two lasers, YAG and CO/sub 2/, are considered. This interaction can be the source of radiation emission that is shifted from the laser frequency. Spectrometers, Faraday cups and interferometric techniques are used to diagnose the electron beam and laser. Computer simulation results will be included.
