Abstract :
This paper describes an axial flux permanent magnet synchronous motor with the rotor section sandwiched between two stator sections. In this way, the rotor has no iron and consequently has low position-invariant stator inductance. The rotor also has a small inertia. The motor is driven from voltage and current source inverter circuits in the brushless DC mode. The current waveforms are optimised for low torque ripple and the resulting responses are also presented
