  • Abstract
In this paper we present a hybrid MAC-layer protocol, named MITION, for multi-channel real-time LANs. The MITION protocol is based on the 1-p CSMA/CD scheme, using also a virtual token passing mechanism as the collision resolution algorithm. Additionally, it performs a channel selection algorithm, which provides an efficient “switching” operation for the selection of the available communication channels. The MITION protocol, due to its deterministic and multi-channel nature, offers high operational reliability and high performance under asynchronous and synchronous channel traffic
