Abstract
Broadband in-home connectivity is the next issue to resolve now that the access bottleneck has disappeared. This work highlights market developments that drive in-home networks to run at Gigabit speeds and beyond. A worlds-first field trial using ITU-T G.hn technology, large-core 1 mm step-index plastic optical fibre, and all-commercial devices is shown. It demonstrates the possibilities of cost-effective Gb/s networking in the home.
