  • Abstract
    To study the acute toxicity and the mutagenicity of Eriobotrya japonica extract. The oral acute toxicity test in mice , Ames test , micronucleus test in bone marrow and sperm abnormality test were carried out. The results shown that tolerated dose of 20g/kg body weight in mice could be regarded as virtually non-toxic. The micronucleus rates and sperm abnormality rates in all doses were not significantly different from the control group. No increase in the number of revertant colonies was found in the Ames test with and without S9 mixture.So acute toxicity and the mutagenicity of Eriobotrya japonica extract were not observed in this study.
