Title :
Multi-level precedence in B-ISDN
fDate :
30 Sep-3 Oct 1990
Abstract :
Possible ways of providing a multilevel precedence (MLP) feature in an asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) based broadband ISDN (B-ISDN) are investigated. B-ISDN offers an opportunity to integrate a wide range of services such as voice, data, imagery, and video. ATM, a new multiplexing and switching technique that is selected for B-ISDN, is examined to develop the method for providing a precedence-based call handling feature in an integrated network. Three approaches are identified, including the two approaches that are based on the methods used in the existing networks, defense switched network (DSN) and defense data network (DDN). A description of a method that is based on admission control and flow enforcement functions is presented. The methods are analyzed and compared, and conclusions are provided
