Abstract :
The distinguishing parts of an multilevel decision feedback equalization (MDFE) channel compared to a PRML channel are the forward equalizer and the feedback detector. These two blocks are also known as the feedforward filter (FFF) and feedback filter (FBF). Both analog and mixed/digital implementations are possible for these functions. The present work describes an all-digital approach that is based on a simplified digital equalizer function and a RAM-based detector.
