Abstract
This paper proposes a new topology for grid integration of small wind turbines. What distinguishes this proposal to conventional approaches is the series connection of the wind turbines. A pulse width modulated current source converter is used for controlling the entire turbine set and for direct integration with the AC grid. A simple control strategy based on a square relation between the voltage and the current is used. The main advantage of this proposal is its simplicity, efficiency and low cost. The main features of the proposed system are determined by a simulation study with an exact behavioral model of the semiconductor devices and a realistic wind profile.
