Abstract :
There exists in Argentina a growing interest in alternative energy sources such wind energy for the purpose of water pumping in remote areas. In this context, this paper presents and evaluates a configuration for an autonomous wind generation system oriented to water pumping. It consists of a wind turbine with a brushless doubly fed induction generator, electrically coupled with a squirrel cage induction machine moving a centrifugal-type water pump. The power flow control is accomplished through the auxiliary stator of the generator, changing the frequency and voltage of its excitation. The system is controlled by means of a torque loop following the optimal torque turbine. The energy injection from a secondary energy source is foreseen. A DC bus connects the principal and auxiliary stators through two converters in such a way that the pump can absorb power from both sources. A steady state analysis of the system operation and the power flow for different wind speed is accomplished, supported by simulation results.
