Abstract :
This paper looks at the problems of connecting embedded generation in rural networks where high levels of voltage unbalance exist. It discusses the cause of the unbalance and describes its effects. Correcting the unbalance by load balancing is put forward as a long term solution but short term solutions are discussed. These include the use of single phase regulators, over sizing the generator or connecting the generator via an inverter.
