Abstract :
In this paper, we present a scheme to adaptively control the surface waves on a microstrip antenna, and hence, modify the antenna radiation pattern. The idea consists of using an array of diode-loaded metal strips mounted on the same substrate as the microstrip antenna. The resultant antenna has the ability to change its radiation pattern depending on the operating stage (on/off) of the diodes.
