Abstract
A systematic study of 3rd and 4th order, cascaded ΔΣ modulators is presented. Guidelines for optimal performance are presented and confirmed with extensive behavioural simulations. The optimal loop parameters and the corresponding obtainable performance are given in tables. The performance degradation relatively to an ideal nth-order modulator is quantified. Finally, a performance comparison of this topology with single loop modulators (single and multi bit quantizers) is graphically presented
