Abstract
A composite sliding mode control scheme is proposed for a class of nonlinear base isolated structures in the presence of unknown seismic excitation, parametrical uncertainties and actuator dynamics. Only the information on state variables of the base and the first floor has been used in the control design. A numerical simulation example is given for a 10-storey base isolated structure under the El Centro earthquake
